inA couple of Sundays ago we finally got to go up to Vrahassi, a nearby village in the hills, where our friends, Lydia and Mark live, to treat them to Sunday lunch as a “Thankyou” for all the help they have given us over the past while. We had lunch in one of their favourite tavernas in the village, famous for their “Stifado”, a Greek beef stew. The taverna is called “Platanos” which means “Plane tree” named after a very large Plane tree that used to be in the courtyard. The name remains but unfortunately the tree does not as it had to be cut down a few years ago because it became old and unsafe. A lovely afternoon was had by all, sitting in the courtyard in the still warm Cretan sun, although this is the middle of November. After lunch we then went to the main square of the village, for drinks, and to enjoy the wonderful view of the mountains and the valley. What a great way to spend Sunday afternoon.

inToday, November 19th, is the fifth anniversary of the day we moved into our little house in Latsida. I’m posting a few photos taken in and around our village to celebrate this anniversary.

inAn old wooden donkey saddle has found its’ final resting place in our courtyard.
My English holiday neighbour, Roger, shares my appreciation of old stuff often thrown out by our Greek neighbours. This is four hooks mounted on a piece of wood which will replace a hook on the wall which houses my laundry basket and our wood bag.
A brown wooden door yet to find a place in our courtyard.
